Uganda striker Uche Ikpeazu has announced the team he will support to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following his team's 3-1 loss to Nigeria on Tuesday.
Ikpeazu, whose father is Nigerian and mother is Ugandan, was unable to help the Cranes as the Super Eagles eliminated them from the AFCON tournament in Morocco.
Before the match, the 30-year-old expressed his apologies to his father while declaring his desire to lead Uganda to victory over Nigeria.
Unfortunately, the St. Johnstone player could not fulfill his ambitions, as Uganda was knocked out of the AFCON by Nigeria.
During his post-match interview, Ikpeazu stated that he would support Nigeria in their quest to win the AFCON title.
“I will be supporting Nigeria to lift the AFCON. Uganda is a fantastic national team — much respect to them,” Ikpeazu remarked.
“The quality was evident, and I believe some of the goals we conceded were due to mistakes, but it's a learning experience.
“We are a very young team; we will learn, and we can improve. I gave it my all, and that is what matters most.”
