Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has shared his thoughts on striker Victor Osimhen’s goal drought for the Super Eagles of Nigeria during the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

So far, Osimhen has netted just one goal for Nigeria after three matches under Eric Chelle’s management.

The Galatasaray forward will be eager to score when the Super Eagles take on Mozambique in Monday’s Round of 16 match.

When asked about Osimhen’s scoring struggles at AFCON, Oliseh pointed out an intriguing aspect of the former Napoli player’s performance, emphasizing that Osimhen is keen to find the net.

“Osimhen is determined to score. I believe it’s in his best interest to find the back of the net, but what I find particularly interesting is that, especially in the last game [Nigeria vs Uganda], he focused more on teamwork,” Oliseh remarked on Global Football Insight.

“He was actively seeking ways to contribute to the play, which I think is commendable. Look back at the last AFCON; he scored only one goal, and we made it to the final.

“If he scores just one goal again and Nigeria reaches the final, I would prefer that over him scoring six goals and Nigeria being eliminated.”
