Former Nigeria international Sam Elijah has disagreed with comments made by former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh, who claimed that Nigeria’s bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was not worth celebrating.

Recall that Nigeria won the bronze medal in Morocco after defeating Egypt in the third-place playoff last weekend.

Speaking with Footy-Africa, Elijah insisted that Eric Chelle’s side deserved recognition for their achievement.

“I don’t agree with him that the bronze medal is not worth celebrating,” Elijah told Footy-Africa.

“If Oliseh were the coach, would he say his team shouldn’t be celebrated after playing good football and capping it with a medal?”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will not participate in the 2026 World Cup tournament, scheduled to start in the summer, after losing to DR Congo in the playoffs.
