Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has refuted allegations that the federation influenced the final Super Eagles squad announced by head coach Eric Chelle.

This week, Chelle reduced his provisional list of 54 players to just 28 ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

The final squad faced some criticism and accusations suggesting that certain players were included due to the influence of prominent figures within the NFF.

However, Gusau, in a conversation with former Nigeria international Segun Odegbami on Eagle 102.5 FM, cautioned against such claims.

“People need to be cautious about what they are saying, especially on social media,” Gusau stated.

“The atmosphere is quite toxic. There are numerous agents everywhere.

“I would never instruct a coach to select a particular player. Since I became President, I have never shared a hotel with the national team. I aim to avoid being a distraction.”
