Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has provided an update on the fitness of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and midfielder Frank Onyeka.

The Malian shared this information during his media briefing on Monday, just a day before his team's final group match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The captain of Chippa United, Nwabali, continued to play despite sustaining an injury during Nigeria's 3-2 win against Tunisia, while Moses Simon replaced Onyeka with eleven minutes remaining in the match.

Nwabali appeared to twist his body awkwardly while attempting to prevent Tunisia's first goal, raising concerns about his knee, and Onyeka was later seen limping.

Nigeria currently leads with six points and has already secured qualification for the round of 16, shifting the focus to whether Chelle will alter his team lineup for the upcoming match against the Cranes.

When asked for updates on Nwabali and Onyeka, as well as potential squad rotations for Tuesday, Chelle addressed reporters during the pre-match press conference.

He stated, “Nwabali is experiencing minor knee pain, and Frank is dealing with an ankle issue. We will manage the situation for the team. I need to consider the overall team, and we have one last training session today.”

Chelle also indicated that there may be changes to the starting lineup, emphasizing that fitness concerns will need to be addressed carefully, which could influence his final decision.

“The most important factor is how we feel before the game begins. It might surprise you when you see the starting eleven tomorrow, but for now, I cannot disclose any details.”

Of the 28 players included in Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations squad, 10 have yet to see any playing time. They are Francis Uzoho, Igoh Ogbu, Cyriel Dessers, Muhammed Usman, Amas Obasogie, Raphael Onyedika, Salim Fago Lawal, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Ryan Alebiosu, and Tochukwu Nnadi.
