Former Super Eagles player, Odion Ighalo, mentioned that Victor Osimhen missed several significant opportunities during Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Algeria on Saturday.

He emphasized, however, that the Galatasaray player is not selfish and embodies the type of forward that every team desires.

Osimhen has netted four goals and provided two assists for the Super Eagles during the tournament.

Only his Super Eagles teammate, Ademola Lookman, has contributed more goals than Osimhen in the Africa Cup of Nations to date.

Ighalo remarked that while Osimhen occasionally misses clear scoring chances, his overall contribution remains impressive as he also helps generate opportunities for his teammates.

“As I always say, he missed a few crucial chances,” Ighalo stated on SuperSport.

“He should have scored about three goals [against Algeria on Saturday], but he performed exceptionally well.

“He scored one goal and assisted Akor Adams. He’s the kind of forward that every team wants because he’s not selfish.

“He works hard for the team, creates chances, scores goals, and outpaces defenders, so I’m pleased with what I observed today [on Saturday], and it will require a bit more to overcome Morocco.”

Osimhen’s goal against Algeria increased his total to 35, just two goals shy of equaling Rashidi Yekini’s record as Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer.
