Adeyanju thanks Atiku, Peter Obi, Sowore over release of VeryDarkMan from EFCC custody

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has expressed appreciation to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and activist Yele Sowore for their roles in securing the release of social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

Adeyanju also acknowledged the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Olayinka Olukoyode, and Nigerian singer David Adeleke, also known as Davido, following VeryDarkMan’s release.

DAILY POST reports that VDM, as he is popularly known, was detained by EFCC since his arrest in Abuja on Friday.

His detention sparked widespread outcry, with Nigerian youths across the country demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

On Tuesday, EFCC stated that the arrest was based on several petitions filed against the activist, alleging that multiple invitations had been extended to him, which he allegedly failed to honour.

The anti-graft agency subsequently announced that the social critic had been granted administrative bail.

He was released on Wednesday.

Confirming VDM’s release, Adeyanju wrote on X: “VDM released to us on bail. Special thanks to @DAPLawFirm especially the head of our firm @Marvin_Omorogbe. Thank you Nigerians for speaking up for him. Thank you Egbon @YeleSowore.

“Thank you HE Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Davido, opposition lawmakers, etc. I must also thank the chairman of EFCC for indulging and listening to all my concerns since on Friday last week and his team. The struggle continues.
