The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the deaths of seven individuals in Akinlalu town, located in the Ife North local government area of the state.

Governor Adeleke made this commitment on Monday through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, during a visit by a government delegation to the affected community.

This statement from Adeleke came in response to the widespread outrage and calls for justice from Akinlalu residents after the tragic incident, which has plunged the victims’ families and the town into mourning.

According to Alimi, the Adeleke administration will not tolerate criminal activities and is fully dedicated to bringing the offenders to justice.

He stated, “Governor Ademola Adeleke strongly condemns the killings in Akinlalu. The government will ensure a comprehensive investigation, and those responsible will face the full consequences of the law.”

Alimi encouraged residents to remain calm and patient, assuring them that a transparent investigation would be conducted to deliver justice for the victims.

While expressing gratitude to media figures like Oriyomi Hamzat and other bloggers for highlighting the tragic event, Alimi noted that their efforts amplified the community’s demand for justice.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, reported that three suspects have already been arrested and are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo.

He mentioned, “The police have taken immediate action since the incident occurred. Three suspects are currently in custody, and others will be apprehended soon.”

Osun State Attorney General, Barrister Jimi Bada, extended his condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that justice would be pursued to its final conclusion.

“The state government will ensure that all individuals found guilty face severe penalties as outlined by law,” he stated.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo, called for calm among the residents, assuring them that justice would be served.

The traditional ruler of Akinlalu, Oba Oloyede Aborisade, urged the state government to ensure justice and provide compensation for the families of the victims.

Oba Aborisade characterized the killings as a significant loss to the community.

Additionally, Akinlalu Youth Leader, Adeboye Musbau, demanded prompt government action.

“We cannot afford to suffer in vain. We urge the government to conduct a thorough investigation and compensate the affected families,” he lamented.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Osun Amotekun, through a statement from its spokesperson, reported that three suspected hoodlums were killed in a violent confrontation with its personnel on the outskirts of Akinlalu town.

The agency disclosed that the security personnel were confronted while on a mission to recover their weapons that had been seized by the hoodlums.

However, on Wednesday, October 1, the Osun State Police Command, via a counter statement from DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, its Police Public Relations Officer, stated that all claims and counterclaims, including allegations of murder, assault, weapon theft, wounding, and impersonation, would be thoroughly verified to establish facts and ensure justice.

Ojelabi affirmed that the police have taken over the case and will leave no stone unturned in their investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killings. He added that the Amotekun personnel took away the bodies of their deceased victims.

Ojelabi noted that the suspected personnel are currently on the run but will be apprehended and held accountable regardless of their hiding places.

According to reliable sources, the death toll from the incident has risen to seven as of press time on Tuesday, one week after the tragic shootings in Akinlalu town.
