The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has declared a complete lockdown and a 24-hour curfew in Igbajo town, located in the Boluwaduro Local Government Area.

This curfew comes in response to a reported breakdown of law and order that occurred from Sunday night into the early hours of Monday.

The announcement regarding the curfew was made in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on Monday in Osogbo.

As per the statement, intelligence from the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo, revealed that tensions rose among residents following the recent passing of Oba Adegboyega Famodun, the troubled Owa of Igbajo land, who reportedly died in Abuja on Friday.

Famodun was a former state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State during his lifetime.

The unrest prompted the government to implement an immediate lockdown to restore peace.

Governor Adeleke stated, “This administration will not condone any form of civil disobedience that could disrupt the current peace and harmony being experienced throughout Osun State.”

He cautioned both residents and non-residents to avoid actions that could exacerbate the situation, emphasizing that anyone engaging in activities that could lead to further unrest would face legal repercussions.

The governor expressed, “It is with deep shock and dismay that I learned of the disturbance in Igbajo last night continuing into the early hours of today.”

He reiterated that his administration is dedicated to maintaining peace across the state and will not tolerate any violations.

“As a government committed to strict adherence to the rule of law to ensure peace and order at all times, my administration will not stand by and allow any breach of law and order anywhere in the state,” he remarked.

In announcing the full curfew, Adeleke emphasized that the lockdown will remain until normalcy is restored to the community.

He deemed this action necessary to prevent further escalation and instructed security agencies to maintain a strong presence in the town.

“Effective today, Monday, 1/12/2025, a contingent of all security personnel, including the Army, Police, DSS, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, will be deployed to ensure 24-hour surveillance in Igbajo,” he declared.

He urged residents to cooperate with security operatives during the curfew period, encouraging them to prioritize peace and safety.

Governor Adeleke, while extending his condolences to the family of the late Famodun and the entire Igbajo community, described the deceased as a beloved and distinguished son of the town.
