The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the capital city is safe and secure.
Wike noted that security in the capital has significantly improved compared to previous administrations.
While inspecting ongoing projects in the Wuye District and the Federal Highway 105, which connects the Umar Musa Yar’Adua Expressway to Kuje township on Saturday, the Minister mentioned that isolated security incidents do not define the overall safety of Abuja.
He commented, “If there is one safe city in this country, I believe Abuja is that city.”
“The issue we face is that when a single incident occurs, we tend to overlook that nothing has happened in the past three months.”
“We deserve recognition, along with the security agencies, for the efforts we are making to ensure Abuja remains safe, and it has been safe.”
“While we acknowledge that incidents may occur, this does not imply that Abuja is unsafe. I urge everyone not to interpret this as a sign that the city is not secure. If there is one safe city in this country, I believe Abuja is that city.”
The Minister also emphasized the importance of sanitation in Abuja, with the FCT Administration actively addressing the issue of indiscriminately dumped waste.
Wike mentioned that the FCTA has commenced the removal of waste along Airport Road and in the Nyanya/Karshi area.
He announced plans to award new contracts for waste disposal within the next two weeks, assuring that only qualified contractors will be selected to maintain the cleanliness of the city.
“We anticipate that in the next two weeks, the contract for waste disposal will be officially awarded. This will significantly aid our efforts,” he stated.
