The Abia State Government has claimed that certain opposition members are attempting to create divisions that could destabilize Abia, the South East region, and the harmonious relationship between Governor Alex Otti and President Bola Tinubu.
The state government has accused former Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, of allegedly recruiting individuals to launch a smear campaign against Governor Otti through social media platforms.
This statement was released on Sunday morning by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State Governor, who stated that the plot for destabilization was uncovered through a screenshot of a publication made by the former Information Commissioner.
“This unfortunate situation reveals the reckless desperation of the so-called Abia opposition to undermine and destabilize both the state and, by extension, the South-East geopolitical region,” remarked Ukoha Njoku.
He mentioned that the alleged dissemination of false information could turn the Federal Government against Otti and the Abia State Government.
The Chief Press Secretary, noting that Governor Otti remains undeterred by these alleged desperate tactics, expressed that Otti is thankful to the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government for approving the Abia Government’s request for the reconstruction of essential federal infrastructure in the state.
He also acknowledged the Federal Government's approval for upgrading the planned Abia Air Strip to an airport, among other collaborative efforts.
However, in a post on his Facebook page, former Commissioner for Information John Okiyi Kalu expressed his dismay at being falsely accused, stating that he was unaware of the allegations and never authored such an article.
Okiyi’s statement included: “To clarify, I do not belong to any WhatsApp group named ‘War Room.’
“The language used is not mine, and I completely reject everything in that nonsensical script,” Okiyi stated.
