Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has condemned the recent kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, stating that those responsible “will never find peace wherever they are” until the victims are rescued.
Kefas expressed his condemnation on Wednesday in Jalingo during the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Taraba State House of Assembly.
Prior to unveiling the budget, titled “2026 Development We Can See,” he requested a moment of silence in honor of the abducted girls, reiterating his administration’s commitment to supporting efforts for their release.
During the unveiling of a budget proposal amounting to N650,631,790 billion, the governor mentioned that the plan aligns with Taraba’s medium-term development framework, emphasizing youth empowerment, security, economic growth, and enhanced public services.
“Youth are our greatest asset. In 2026, they will not be mere observers. This budget will harness their potential for productivity, peace, and security,” Kefas stated.
Kefas also committed to closing revenue leakages and enhancing governance systems, highlighting that 6.19 percent of the budget has been allocated to the health sector.
He expressed confidence that with collective sincerity and dedication, Taraba State would “achieve development that we can all witness.”
In response, the Speaker of the House, John Bonzina, praised the governor’s presentation and assured that the Assembly would expedite the budget's consideration.
The speaker also urged ministries, departments, and agencies to be prompt in presenting themselves for budget defense.
Governor Kefas, who recently switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), had previously postponed the budget presentation due to increased security concerns following the kidnapping of at least 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
