Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), reports that the pupils and staff abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwarra Local Government Area of Niger State are in good health and will soon be reunited with their families.
On November 21, armed assailants attacked the school and kidnapped 315 individuals, including 303 students and 12 teachers.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State later announced that 50 of the abducted students had managed to escape.
During a solidarity visit to Bulus Yohanna, the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Ribadu reportedly stated, “The children are doing well and will return shortly.”
The diocese also quoted him as saying: “This is a very solemn and challenging time for us… we accept responsibility because it is our duty to protect you.”
Ribadu further mentioned that President Bola Tinubu is profoundly concerned, saying: “Mr. President is in pain; he shares our sorrow. He has halted all his activities… he postponed his journey.”
He cautioned that the government will no longer tolerate criminal attacks against Nigerians.
“Enough is enough… Let us not permit malicious individuals to divide us,” he asserted.
Ribadu also acknowledged that international partners are assisting Nigeria in its battle against terrorism and banditry.
“Many good people from across the globe are coming to support us, including the United States of America, France, the United Kingdom, and others,” he added.
Earlier, Bishop Yohanna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and presented reports to the NSA before they engaged in a 30-minute closed-door meeting.
