Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has stated that infidelity and polygamy in Nigerian society will always exist.

During a podcast interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Akintola alleged that a significant majority of Nigerian men cheat on their partners, citing a staggering 90 to 99 percent figure.

The 55-year-old attributed this behavior to cultural and generational patterns, stating that many men are raised in environments where infidelity is normalized.

She explained that some men even learn cheating behaviors from their fathers, who may have multiple partners or girlfriends.

According to the actress, this cultural influence is deeply ingrained, making it challenging for women to expect fidelity in relationships.

She said, “I don’t know where this idea of fidelity in Africa came from. Your father cheats, your grandfather cheated, my father has two wives.

“I can’t tell you whether to stay or leave but you leave this one and move to the next one, you still have the same issue. They all cheat, 90 percent of them cheat, it’s engraved in them.

“I know you might want to change them but I hear characters are fully formed when you’re seven years old. Some of them started by following their daddy to girlfriends’ house.

“I’m not excusing it don’t get me wrong, I am just being realistic when it comes to these kinds of situation.”
