KBS2’s upcoming drama “The First Night With the Duke”;; has unveiled the first look at 2PM’s Taecyeon in his new role!
“The First Night With the Duke”;; is a romance fantasy that tells the story of an ordinary college student whose soul becomes transferred into a minor character of a romance novel and spends the night with the obsessive male lead.
Taecyeon stars as Yi Beon, the male lead set in a fictional version of Korea’s Joseon era. Yi Beon is nearly perfect—handsome, skilled in martial arts, and calm with an emotionless demeanor. But everything changes after he spends the first night with Cha Sun Chaek (Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun), a minor character possessed by a modern-day college student named K. From that moment on, Yi Beon’s long-hidden emotions begin to surface, transforming him into a bold, love-struck man who openly expresses his feelings.
The newly released stills highlight Yi Beon’s cold exterior and the subtle emotions breaking through. Whether he’s in full uniform on horseback or standing alone in the dark, he exudes the commanding presence of a leading man. Yet, after spending that first night with Cha Sun Chaek, a softer side appears, revealed in the spark of excitement in his eyes when he looks at her.
Taecyeon shared, “I received the script when I was really into reading web novels. I think everyone has imagined what it would be like to enter a web novel and become their favorite main character at least once,”;; explaining what drew him to the role.
He added, “Yi Beon may look like the typical male lead, but in many ways, he’s closer to a villain. He’s like a tyrant—bad at expressing his feelings and sees that as a weakness, so he shuts himself off from others.”;; He continued, “What makes him most interesting is that after meeting Cha Sun Chaek, he tries to change everything about the way he’s lived for the woman he loves.”;;
To prepare for the role, Taecyeon had extensive talks with the director before filming. He explained, “In every scene, I wanted to show the character’s seriousness. Instead of using words, I focused on expressing Yi Beon’s feelings through his actions and eyes.”;;
“The First Night With the Duke”;; is set to premiere on June 11 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
