Portugal have set up a blockbuster Round of 16 clash with Spain at the 2026 World Cup, after they came from behind to beat Croatia 2-1 in a dramatic affair on Friday.
Ivan Perisic had put his team in front seven minutes into the second half of the match.
But Cristiano Ronaldo equalized with his first ever goal in the knockout stage of the World Cup from the penalty spot.
Ronaldo was then taken off, before Goncalo Ramos glanced home Rafael Leao’s cross in added time.
VAR denied Croatia a last-gasp equalizer after Josko Gvardiol’s 113th goal was ruled out.
Other last-16 fixtures will see USA face Belgium, Morocco take on Canada and Paraguay clash with France.
Brazil will tackle Norway on Sunday, and Mexico will battle England on Monday.
