Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is poised to captain the Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup playoff final against the Democratic Republic of Congo this Sunday.

As reported by Sports Village Square, Osimhen will take over the captaincy from Wilfred Ndidi, who is suspended for the match in Rabat, Morocco.

Ndidi will serve a one-match ban following his yellow card during the 4-1 victory over Gabon in the semi-final on Thursday.

Osimhen, who netted two goals in that match, is also facing disciplinary scrutiny.

The 26-year-old received a yellow card for removing his shirt while celebrating his first goal in extra time.

Another yellow card against DR Congo could result in a one-match suspension for him as well.

Head coach Eric Chelle will be relying on Osimhen’s scoring ability once more to secure the African spot for the intercontinental playoffs.
