Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has stated that the Super Eagles must continue to believe in their chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their challenging position in Group C, according to DAILY POST.
The Super Eagles currently occupy third place in the group with 11 points.
Joint leaders, Benin Republic and South Africa, both have 14 points.
Eric Chelle’s team will face Lesotho in a matchday nine encounter in Polokwane on Friday.
They will then host Benin at home next Tuesday.
A victory in both matches may not suffice, as they will need Benin and South Africa to lose points to qualify for the World Cup.
Bassey emphasized that they possess sufficient experience to manage the pressure.
“We need to stay composed and perform our duties. This isn't the first time, whether at club or country level, that any of us has faced a high-pressure situation,” he told the Super Eagles media.
“I believe we have an experienced team capable of handling this scenario. It's all about ensuring we execute everything correctly.”
