2025 U-20 AFCON: Chelle elated with Flying Eagles quarter-final feat

Published on May 09, 2025 at 03:47 PM

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has reflected on the Flying Eagles’ performance at the ongoing 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The Flying Eagles have struggled to make a big impression at the competition despite their status as one of the favourites.

Aliyu Zubairu’s side finished second in Group B with five points from three games.

Chelle was in the stands during the team’s 2-2 draw with Kenya on Wednesday.

The Malian applauded the Flying Eagles for progressing to the next stage.

“I’m very happy with our U20 team’s qualification. It wasn’t an easy match, because we were up against a very good team (Kenya). We reacted in this match. Every time we conceded a goal, the team responded well,”; the 47-year-old told CAFonline.

The Flying Eagles will be up against holders Senegal in a quarter-final fixture at the Suez Canal Stadium, Ismailia next week Monday.
