A group of lawyers from Kano State has sent a petition to the leadership of the National Assembly, calling for a full investigation into the alleged role of former House Majority Leader, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, in the killing of several people during the 2023 general elections in Tudun Wada.
The petition, addressed to the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, urged lawmakers to intervene and ensure justice for families of those who reportedly lost their lives.
In the petition, signed by Dr. Jafar Sadik on behalf of the group, the lawyers argued that failure to probe the allegations could weaken public trust in the justice system.
“In a democracy, no one is above the law. Allowing such serious allegations to go without thorough investigation can destroy the foundation of justice in this country,” the group warned.
The lawyers also asked the committees on Judiciary, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Human Rights Commission to be involved in the matter.
They further appealed to both chambers of the National Assembly to hold a public hearing or, at the very least, demand a detailed report from the police and Kano State Ministry of Justice.
According to them, they had earlier written to the Kano State Ministry of Justice, attaching photographs of victims of the incident, before taking the matter to the National Assembly.
Dr. Sadik added, “Our hope is that the federal lawmakers will stand on the side of justice and give voice to the victims’ families who are still in pain.”
