At least fourteen candidates competing in the upcoming election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, have entered into a peace agreement.
The peace agreement was finalized by the candidates on Sunday in Ibadan, the state capital.
The event was graced by the representative of the Commissioner of Police in the state, ACP Coker Shado; former Chairman of the union, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole; and the outgoing Chairman, Ademola Babalola.
According to DAILY POST, the NUJ election is scheduled for December 9, 2025.

The executive roles within the union include chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, assistant secretary, and internal auditor.
Among those who signed the peace agreement are Adebayo Raji (Correspondents’ Chapel), Oladapo Olusola (Federal Ministry of Information), Akeem Abas (Correspondents’ Chapel), Atilola Abiodun (State Information), Adeniji Olamide (State Information), and Adu Dayo (FRCN).
Additional signatories include Imran Khalid (Oke-Ogun), Animashaun Rofiah (NTA), Ishola Olamiposi (BCOS), Adebayo Abdul Rofih (BCOS), Morenikeji Moses (FRCN), Oladipo Bosede (NFTV), Akinjola Olubode (BCOS), and Alimi Nurudeen (Nigerian Tribune).
DAILY POST also reports that the fifteenth candidate, Nwaoko Samuel from the Nigerian Tribune newspaper, was not present at the peace signing.
The chairman of the credentials screening committee, Ismail Fasasi, while addressing the attendees, emphasized that the peace pact is crucial for ensuring a fair and transparent election.
He encouraged the candidates and their supporters to uphold decorum and sportsmanship throughout the electoral process.
Fasasi stated: “I urge all stakeholders to respect the principles outlined in the Peace Accord. Let us collaborate to foster an environment that allows voters to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”
