Osun: Aduramigba community protests incessant armed robbery, poor electricity supply

Indigenes of Aduramigba communityin Ido-Osun, on Friday, blocked the access road leading to the area in protest of incessant attacks by armed robbers and alleged harassment by men of the Nigeria Police.

The protesters, who also lamented the poor electricity supply to the community added that the situation contributed to the continued robbery attacks.

DAILY POST reports that the roadblock and barricade by the protesters restricted the free flow of traffic, causing a gridlock into and out of the area.

Aduramigba community is located in Ido-Osun, Egbedore local government area but not far from Osogbo, the state capital.

Speaking to journalists, the residents said no fewer than 30 phones, a car, laptops and other valuable items were carted away overnight by armed robbers.

“We are tired of this situation. Today alone, armed robbers stole a car, over 30 phones, laptops and other items. They were knocking on doors and since there is no light, it was difficult to trace them,”; one of the protesters identified as Kola said.

The Osun State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, who spoke to our reporter claimed the community were venting their anger over a recent robbery incident.

He, however, explained that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the area said the robbery incident had not been reported officially to the authorities.

In his words, “There is a protest within the area and it is based on robbery that has been reoccurring. The information I gathered from the DPO is that there was such a robbery incident reported two weeks back but beforethen there has not been such.”;

“The incident is still under investigation. The recent one has not been reported. We are surprised to hear this. We are not aware of it. The only reported one occurred two weeks ago and we are seriously on it,”; he said.

He urged the complainants to lodge an official report at the police station so that appropriate actions could be taken.
