The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused certain politicians of hiring armed thugs to disrupt the upcoming visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the state.

The party's Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, made this statement while addressing journalists in Gusau on Wednesday. He indicated that the alleged plot was designed to distract from Matawalle’s homecoming event set for Thursday.

Idris noted that the APC had made thorough preparations to welcome the minister, who is anticipated to meet with party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau as well as his hometown, Maradun.

“Regrettably, we have received credible information indicating a serious and destructive plan regarding the minister’s visit,” he stated.

He alleged that some thugs have been contracted to attack the minister’s convoy and create disorder along the Gusau–Maradun route, particularly near Tsafe.

However, the party urged its members to remain law-abiding and refrain from carrying weapons during the visit.

“We are therefore advising our members against bringing any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond to maintain peace and order,” Idris emphasized.

He also appealed to security agencies to be aware of the alleged scheme and ensure that anyone attempting to incite unrest is apprehended and handed over to law enforcement authorities.
