The Yobe State Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (YEMABUS) has appealed to residents and motorists to respect and give way to its ambulances during rescue and emergency operations.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the Service through its Information and Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Waziri, who emphasised that prompt access to emergency scenes is vital to saving lives.
In the statement, YEMABUS noted that its emergency response teams remain on constant standby to attend to accidents and medical emergencies across the state, but often face delays due to traffic congestion and the failure of road users to yield to ambulances.
“Accidents and medical emergencies can occur at any time, and our response teams are always ready to act.
“However, when ambulances are obstructed in traffic, it delays rescue efforts and can lead to avoidable loss of lives”, it said.
According to YEMABUS, public cooperation is essential to ensuring timely intervention and improving the survival chances of victims.
The Service urged motorists to regard it as a civic duty to immediately clear the road and allow ambulances unhindered passage whenever sirens are activated, noting that such cooperation could mean the difference between life and death.
