The Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Internal Revenue Service (YSIRS), Alhaji Suleiman Bakura Jibrin, has called on the Yobe State House of Assembly to take action and ensure that all revenue-generating agencies, including local governments, deposit their revenues directly into the agency’s account to prevent financial leakages.
This appeal was made during the agency’s budget defense for 2026 before the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
He pointed out that the state is losing significant revenue because some agencies do not utilize a single treasury account for revenue collection.
However, he mentioned that “the State Revenue Agency has generated over ₦12 billion from January to September, out of the ₦14 billion revenue target approved for the agency in the 2025 Finance Bill.”
In a related matter, the Ministries of Finance, Budget, Youth and Sports, along with the Fiscal Responsibility Board, the State and Local Governments Audit Department, and the Audit Service Board have also presented and defended their respective budget proposals for 2026 before the House.
The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, reiterated the lawmakers’ dedication to ensuring transparency and accountability in the execution of the 2026 budget proposal.
