THE Masters clash between Mark Williams and Mark Allen was briefly suspended due to a medical emergency.

The snooker legends are squaring off in the opening round of the competition at Ally Pally as they bid to land the huge cash prize.

The winner takes home a £350,000 cash windfall as part of the over £1million cash pot with the runner-up bagging £140K.

Just as the match got up and running the action had to take a pause due to a medical situation as staff rushed to help.

Ken Docherty on duty said on air: “I believe there is a slight medical emergency in the audience so the staff will be attending to that.

“That’s why there’s no play going on at the moment.

“Hopefully all will be well and we can continue shortly.”

The action quickly resumed in the best of 11 frames contest.

The tournament has already got off to a thrilling start with reigning champion Shaun Murphy OUT.

He lost 6-2 to China’s Wu Yize in the first round while current UK title holder Mark Selby also suffered elimination.

He exited the competition by the same score against Chinese debutant Xiao Guondong on his Alexandra Palace bow.

Reacting to his defeat, Murphy said: “I’ve been looking forward to today for a year, walking out as champion, but I enjoyed the first 10 minutes,”

“I’m very disappointed. None of it was there. I felt everything I touched was not there.

“I’ve been working very hard, practising hard, playing a lot of snooker, so I didn’t expect to play like that and I’m as shocked as anyone.

“I didn’t play well, certainly the worst performance of my season, maybe the worst in the Masters.

“Wu looked calm, looked at ease and fully deserved his win. He will be a handful for anyone he plays.”
