The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he played a significant role in enabling Seyi Makinde to become the Governor of Oyo State in 2019.

Wike explained that Makinde's governorship was made possible after he and several party leaders provided him with the PDP structure in Oyo State.

This revelation was made during his end-of-the-year media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while responding to Makinde’s assertion of earning $1 million during his time in law school.

Wike disclosed that when he pursued the PDP’s presidential nomination, Makinde did not contribute “N1000.”

He stated: “I ran for the presidential primary of the PDP. I did not see Seyi use even one thousand Naira in my primaries. I did not witness it at all.”

“Furthermore, it’s only in Nigeria that I have seen someone awarded a job worth one million dollars, and yet no one is discussing it.”

“However, he approached the individual who did not possess one million dollars to assist him in obtaining a structure. We declined, opting to support Teslim instead. He then went to the SDP to contest for governor and failed with his one million dollars.”

“Before 2019, he returned to us. We said no, we are willing to provide you with the structure. I was well-versed in politics, but I did not have one million dollars.”

“Yet, the man who claimed to have earned one million dollars was seeking assistance from others to establish a structure. It was only after we provided him with that structure that Seyi became governor in 2019.”
