The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, the Regional Leader of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), to wait until 2027 if he aspires to become Nigeria’s vice president.

Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, made this statement in response to Dachomo’s recent assertion that there is a genocide against Christians in Nigeria due to the fact that both President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are Muslims.

Dachomo stated in an interview, “Shettima is a Muslim, and the president is a Muslim. Is that not complete genocide against Christians in the political arena? The solution is to remove Shettima, and I stand by that.”

In its response, MURIC accused the cleric of engaging in “hyperbolic articulation,” labeling his comments as extreme and exaggerated.

The organization stated, “A new dimension was added to the Christian genocide discourse… when Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo erupted on national television, claiming that the Muslim-Muslim ticket equates to Christian genocide.”

MURIC characterized his statements as emotive, inflammatory, and childish, asserting that they undermine democracy, due process, and the judicial decisions that validated the 2023 election.

It continued, “How can anyone propose the removal of a vice president who emerged from a free, fair, and credible election? If Dachomo intends to be the vice president of Nigeria, he must adhere to the established democratic process. He must wait until 2027.”

The group also condemned what it termed Dachomo’s dramatization and sensationalism, suggesting that he perceives the “Muslim-Muslim ticket… in his wardrobe, in television studios, and, of course, in the imaginary Christian genocide.”

MURIC recalled the 2018 incident involving Major-General Mohammed Idris Alkali, noting that protesters attempted to mislead soldiers searching for the missing officer before he was ultimately discovered deceased in a well.

The organization accused certain groups of leveraging mass psychosis, a sense of entitlement, and false claims to advance a political agenda, asserting that the recent outcry regarding Christian genocide is fundamentally about contesting political power.

MURIC also commended Christians who have rejected such narratives, emphasizing that many spoke out courageously because they understood the truth.

The statement called for unity among Nigerians: “Let us unite to rescue our nation from ruthless killers and senseless kidnappers.”

MURIC also advised Reverend Dachomo to moderate his rhetoric, stating that religious leaders should exemplify responsible conduct.
