POLICE have arrested two people after a village goose named Gandalf was allegedly stolen from his friend named Ryan Gosling.

The residents of Borough Green in Kent have pleaded for Gandalf to be returned safely after he was reportedly bundled into the back of a car on May 12.

The force has arrested a man and woman, both in their 20s, on Monday on suspicion of animal cruelty.

and Gandalf have been living on Basted Millpond for the last two years.

The known duo have been a staple in the area, until locals were shocked to hear that Gandalf had been taken.

A motorist claimed to have witnessed the goose being chucked into the boot of a black estate car before being away at around 7pm last Tuesday.

After learning of the goose’s disappearance, locals began to plead for the feathered animal to be returned safely.

Resident Jane Sewell-Watts told ITV : “It’s a community area, people enjoy local wildlife. You know the geese have been there regularly.

“They have provided a lot of happiness to people with their mental and now this. It’s devastating.”

Some have even begun offering cash rewards for information to have Gandalf returned home.

Benjamin McConnachie has said he would give £400 to anyone who would help find the “low-life” that stole the bird.

The pub owner added: “Everyone loves those geese. People come from Borough Green, Platt, Crouch and other villages to visit them, and bring their children,” he said.

“Nothing like this has ever happened before. It’s always been such a community.

“This has left everybody very sad and upset.

“Whoever did this is the scum of the , and we need to catch them.”

After days of waiting, police announced that they had arrested a pair of adults on Monday in connection to the missing goose.

They were cuffed on suspicion of animal cruelty and have since been released on bail.
