Kester Onor, a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, asserts that the battle against terrorism in Nigeria cannot be effectively won through a purely military approach, emphasizing that the presence of U.S. troops is not the answer.

Onor expressed these views on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, which was observed by DAILY POST.

His remarks follow the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who labeled Nigeria as a country of concern due to allegations of Christian genocide occurring within its borders.

The U.S. President also inquired whether the Department of Defense would investigate if the Nigerian government “is still permitting the killing of Christians.”

“As a nation, we must recognize the United States' vested interest in our affairs. It is crucial that we continue to engage with the American government, despite the recent comments made by President Trump,” he stated.

“Terrorism is not an issue that one nation can tackle independently; we must keep the lines of communication open with the U.S. to discover a sustainable resolution,” he added.
