The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) have announced plans to block the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on Wednesday as part of their efforts to advocate for their demands.
This action takes place amidst an ongoing indefinite nationwide strike by the unions and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, which commenced on November 15, 2025, due to what the unions describe as the prolonged neglect of critical issues impacting health workers.
The unions have criticized the continuous failure of the Federal Government to implement the revised Consolidated Health Salary Structure and to address long-standing welfare and systemic challenges faced by health workers throughout the country.
According to DAILY POST, JOHESU serves as an umbrella organization that represents various health sector unions, including the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Associated Institutions, as well as the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions.
The National Secretary of JOHESU, Martin Egbanubi, stated that union members from different hospitals have already gathered at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for the planned picketing.
“We are picketing the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare today. Our members from various hospitals are already present at the ministry,” he said.
He mentioned that the union had conducted two meetings with representatives of the Federal Government since the strike began, but both discussions concluded without any resolution.
“Since we initiated the strike, we have met with the Federal Government twice, but the meetings ended in a deadlock. Since then, the government has not taken any meaningful action,” Egbanubi added.
