A DRIVER has been sentenced after causing a tractor to veer of the road and into a nearby house.
The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs when he slammed into the tractor on April Fool’s Day this year.
In the video, the yellow tractor can be seen driving down the road on at 6.30am – when the silver Mercedes drives straight into its path.
The tractor jolts from the impact, temporarily lifting its front wheels into the air.
The massive vehicle then barrels forward, continuing to bounce along the road at a rapid speed.
Meanwhile, the silver Mercedes pulls into the road with part of its front plating hanging off.
The tractor, carrying a giant, red agricultural tanker behind it, then blasts through a front lawn fence and smashes into a nearby home.
Then, it crashes through the wall of a house and shatters the building into pieces.
Plumes of smoke begin to billow from the crash site, while a yellow flash can be seen in the cockpit.
The footage, released by Cheshire police, was taken from a Shell garage on Vicars Cross Road.
Matthew Cumpsty was hauled before Chester Crown Court on July 15 to be sentenced in relation to the shocking road accident.
He represented himself at court and said he was “devastated”; at what had happened.
He added: “I would just like to say I have never been in trouble before.”;
Cumpsty was handed a 12 month community order, which includes 200 hours of community service – after admitting to drug driving and dangerous driving.
The 52-year-old was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.
During the court appearance, he admitted to having a previous caution for unlawful drug possession from 2008.
After the April 1, 2025, crash, a road side drug test found cocaine in Cumpsty’s system and a following blood test found that he had 65mcg/l of BZE in his system.
The legal limit is 50mcg/l.
After the sentencing, police constable Richard Phillips said: “While Cumpsty has shown remorse for his actions, the impact of his actions that day were life-changing and it was pure chance that nobody suffered any serious injuries.
“As a result of one bad decision to get behind the wheel while under the influence, several families were left homeless and commuters travelling into Chester were left with serious disruption for several weeks while repair work was undertaken.
“In addition, Cumpsty is facing a lengthy driving ban, I hope that this ban will give him time to reflect on his actions that day.”;
Cumpsty was insured and any compensation will be covered by his insurance company.
A fundraiser was launched to support Darren Kearn, 44, who was affected by the incident.
Darren had been upstairs when he heard a “very, very loud bang”; as the tractor crashed into the front of the property.
The fundraiser has generated £3, 365 but Darren has not been able to recover any of his belongings.
He fled his home wearing only his pyjamas and his cat, who was rescued by fire officers.
Darren has been granted temporary hotel accommodation by Cheshire West and Chester Council, as well as clothes donated by the Red Cross.
Speaking about the horrifying incident, he said: “It is very shocking – it does sort of bring a knot to your stomach.
“When you get to 44 you don’t think about having to replace everything that you own and start over again.”;
