Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for the significant increase in federal allocations to states following the removal of fuel subsidy.
Daniel stated that Ogun State now receives nearly four times the allocation it previously earned from the Federation Account, describing the development as a major financial boost for state governments.
The senator spoke on Tuesday during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Otunba Gbenga Daniel Midterm Assessment and Empowerment Tour held at his Obalofin Court residence in Ijebu Ode.
According to him, the increase in revenue allocations has placed Ogun among the states receiving the highest allocations in the country.
“We need to thank President Bola Tinubu for increasing the amount of federal allocation going to the states by four times,” Daniel said.
“For our eight years in office, we only had access to about N330 billion, but the state now operates a budget of over N1.6 trillion.”
Daniel, however, noted that despite the improved financial inflow to Ogun State, many communities in Ijebuland were yet to experience the level of infrastructural development expected from such increased resources.
He said there was a need for greater attention to projects and public infrastructure across Ogun East, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education and economic development.
The former governor also referenced some federal projects facilitated in Ogun East, including the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode and the ongoing Naval Base project in Abigi.
He expressed the view that stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities would accelerate the delivery of such projects.
Daniel further revisited the controversy surrounding the Dangote Refinery project, which was initially proposed for Ogun Waterside before it was eventually located in Lagos State, describing the development as a missed economic opportunity for Ijebuland.
The senator also spoke on political developments ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in his political support base within Ogun East.
