President Bola Tinubu is preparing to depart Abuja for a visit to two nations, South Africa and Angola.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
Onanuga stated that the President’s first destination will be Johannesburg, where he will participate in the 20th G20 Leaders Summit before heading to Angola for the AU-EU Summit.
DAILY POST reports that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is also the current President of the G20 group, extended an invitation to his Nigerian counterpart to attend this year’s summit.
It is noteworthy that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, during his presidency of the group in 2024, also invited President Tinubu to Rio de Janeiro.
DAILY POST further reports that the summit, scheduled to take place from Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will convene leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and various financial institutions.
The statement indicated that President Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral meetings during the summit to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda and to discuss issues related to regional and international peace, security, and development.
Following the G20 Summit, the President will join other Heads of State and Government from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) for the 7th meeting of the two organizations, which is scheduled to occur from November 24 to 25, 2025, in Luanda, Angola.
“The AU and EU meeting will gather young leaders, innovators, and civil society organizations to collaborate on some of the shared challenges facing both unions.
“It will also offer recommendations on addressing issues related to climate change, inclusivity in development, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative industry, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
“President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; his counterpart in Finance and Coordinating Economy, Wale Edun; Solid Minerals Minister, Dele Alake; Trade and Investment Minister, Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed,” the statement concluded.
