Josef Onoh, a former South-East spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, has refuted assertions that President Bola Tinubu is moving Nigeria’s capital to Lagos.

One Mohammed Bello Doka has reportedly published an opinion piece that suggests regional bias and a covert shift of Nigeria’s capital through administrative and budgetary actions.

In response, Onoh stated that while concerns regarding equitable development are legitimate in a federation, Doka’s claims are a distortion of the facts.

The former chairman of a forum of ex-members of the Enugu State House of Assembly expressed disappointment that this inaccurate narrative was shared and endorsed by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, whom he respects despite the negative perceptions that often surround him.

He further lamented that the overwhelmed media team of President Tinubu has failed to effectively defend and promote his policies to Nigerians and the global community in a manner befitting the office of the President.

Onoh described the claim regarding the relocation of the FAAN headquarters as absurd and laughable, noting that FAAN’s corporate headquarters was returned to Lagos in 2024 (its original location for many years) primarily for operational efficiency.

He explained that over 60 percent of Nigeria’s air traffic is managed in Lagos, and the previous relocation to Abuja (under the last administration) resulted in inadequate office space, leading to unnecessary duty tour allowances and frequent flights for approvals.

Onoh stated, “I personally engaged with the Honourable Minister for Aviation during the uproar over a year ago, and Honourable Minister Festus Keyamo highlighted cost savings (over ₦450-500 million annually in travel expenses alone) and stakeholder consultations, including unions.”
