"Taraba Chief Judge Swears In New Magistrates and Area Court Judges, Emphasizes Impartiality and Accountability"

The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, on Wednesday inaugurated newly appointed magistrates and area court judges in Jalingo, urging them to maintain impartiality, accountability, and a strong moral compass in the performance of their duties.

Agya emphasized that magistrate and area courts serve as the foundation and frontline of the justice system, highlighting that these courts are often the first point of contact between the judiciary and the public, especially for individuals in rural and semi-urban areas.

“For many of our citizens, your courts are not only the closest in proximity but also the most accessible representations of justice, fairness, and the rule of law,” he stated.

He pointed out that the behavior of magistrates and area court judges significantly influences public trust in the judiciary.

“The way you manage your courts, engage with litigants, and resolve cases shapes how ordinary individuals view justice,” Agya remarked.

The chief judge described the ceremony as a pivotal moment in the professional journeys of the judicial officers and a noteworthy achievement in the administration of justice within the state.

He reminded them of their oath to uphold the constitution, apply the law impartially and without bias, and to deliver justice with integrity, diligence, and fairness.

Agya assured the officers of ongoing training to improve service delivery but cautioned that corruption and any form of compromise in justice would not be tolerated by the judiciary.

In his address, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mr. Yakubu Maikasuwa, SAN, encouraged the newly sworn-in judicial officers to ensure that justice is served in their respective jurisdictions.

Maikasuwa congratulated the officers and praised the chief judge for enhancing the bench with young and dynamic judicial officials.

On behalf of the newly sworn-in officers, Mr. Nafiu Garba expressed gratitude to the chief judge for recognizing their capabilities for these appointments and committed to preserving the integrity of the judiciary.
