According to police, all 35 people involved in the smash were injured – many of them children.

One second-grade boy died at the scene despite desperate attempts to save him.

Two other children and a teacher are still fighting for their lives in critical condition.

The horror crash happened at around 12:30pm on State Road 2339 between Ampermoching and Ottershausen.

A public bus is believed to have collided with an oncoming tour bus carrying schoolchildren and teachers from two second-grade classes at Haimhausen Elementary School.

The impact occurred on a bend in the road, where speed limits are set at 60 km/h in one direction and 50 km/h in the other.

Emergency services rushed to the scene as the road was immediately shut down, causing major traffic chaos in the area.

Amid swirling rumours online, District Administrator Stefan LΓΆwl (CSU) confirmed that both drivers were tested for alcohol at the scene – and the results were negative.

He stressed this clarification after false claims about drunk driving began circulating on social media.

The exact cause of the crash remains unclear.

Prosecutors in Munich II have now ordered an expert report as investigators work to piece together what led to the fatal collision.
