- Context of the Ruling
A High Court in Oyo State has instructed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party's National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to proceed with the national convention set for November 15 in Ibadan.
The presiding judge, A.L. Akintola, issued this order following an ex parte application submitted by Folahan Malomo Adelabi.
In case No. I/1336/2025, filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who is an aspirant for the role of Deputy National Organizing Secretary, the court ordered the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other respondents not to interrupt, hinder, disrupt, prevent, or halt the scheduled national convention.
In a clear ruling, Justice Akintola directed INEC to deploy monitors and observers to the convention to ensure full adherence to electoral laws, thus enhancing the transparency and legitimacy of the event.
The court also instructed Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri, the Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), to continue with all preparations related to the convention.
This ruling comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja had previously suspended the national convention.
