It’s since undergone a further five renovations over the years.

And capacity currently stands at a decent 16,500.

But that is now set to be boosted by a whopping 5,000 seats.

Capacity will soon hit 21,500 after long-awaited plans for outfit were finally given the green light.

Blackpool Council have decided that a row of houses behind the East Stand can be demolished after a three-year delay.

The terraced homes on Henry Street will make way, allowing the East Stand to be upgraded with extra seats, new decking and boosted media facilities.

A new concourse will also be built behind the stand.

And engineers will add a new suspended TV gantry too.

Meanwhile, a community sports facility will also be built next to Bloomfield Road.

It will feature 11-a-side and five-a-side football pitches in a huge boost to the local community.

As for Henry Street, all houses set to be demolished bar one are now unoccupied.

The last one is home to a family of tenants, but their private landlord has reportedly agreed final legalities with Blackpool Council for demolition to go ahead.

A council spokesperson said: “Planning approval for the demolition of the properties on Henry Street marks an important first step in revitalising this area of the town.”
