The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that supports the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a warning to its members nationwide, advising them to boycott the upcoming national convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This faction asserted that a recent court order has rendered the convention process invalid. This development follows a lawsuit initiated by former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, which has led to a court decision that the Wike faction claims has introduced new legal uncertainties regarding the convention.
In an interview with Vanguard, the Acting National Youth Leader of the faction, Timothy Osadolor, emphasized that the party cannot legitimately move forward with the gathering in Ibadan until its internal conflicts are addressed and all stakeholders reach a consensus on the way forward.
“As I mentioned before, what is happening in Ibadan is merely an early Christmas celebration. However, even these early Christmas celebrations will not take place,” he stated.
He noted that the ruling obtained earlier on Tuesday further undermined the legitimacy of the event.
“I’m sure you are aware of the court decisions resulting from the lawsuit filed by former governor Sule Lamido earlier today. This has made it clear that the early Christmas celebration is neither properly constituted nor organized,” he added.
The PDP youth leader urged party members across the country not to jeopardize their safety or finances by attending an event he insisted lacks both legal and organizational legitimacy.
