A spokesperson for Mr. Streeting dismissed the claims as “categorically untrue,” while his supporters criticized Downing Street for the leak.
A Labour MP ally told The Sun: “The team in No 10 is out of touch. We’re entering conspiracy theory territory here.
“An increasing number of Labour MPs are questioning why they keep turning against their own Cabinet Ministers with such aggressive and paranoid briefings.
“First it was Lisa, then Angela, then Bridget, then Lucy, and now Wes.
“They would be better off focusing on the significant task of delivering a successful Budget – that is what we desperately need.”
A government source remarked: “Number Ten has gone into full bunker mode, attacking their most loyal cabinet members for no apparent reason.
“A circular firing squad won’t help the government escape the predicament we’re in.”
Allies of the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, last night denied any involvement in the briefings, labeling the suggestions as “completely false.”
Mr. Streeting is understood to be dissatisfied with some of Sir Keir’s decisions and has voiced his concerns in Cabinet meetings.
He reportedly criticized the government’s plans for a digital ID scheme during one meeting.
However, he was also expected to express his support for his leader during a series of interviews scheduled for this morning.
Sir Keir is believed to have met with Mr. Streeting only on Monday night when they had a meeting at Downing Street.
Many MPs are increasingly frustrated with the Prime Minister’s inability to improve declining poll numbers.
