Primate Elijah Ayodele, the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, on Wednesday characterized Nigeria’s independence as a form of enslavement.
He voiced his worries regarding the absence of unity and peace in Nigeria, asserting that the country is not genuinely independent.
Despite commemorating 65 years of independence, he remarked that Nigeria is perched on a ticking time bomb.
In a statement released by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, the prophet criticized the current governance of the nation, emphasizing the lack of recognition for leaders and individuals who have diligently worked for the country.
He urged Nigerian leaders to concentrate on five critical areas: security, production, mineral resource utilization, agriculture, and true federalism to attain authentic independence.
The clergyman cautioned that Nigeria is undergoing a challenging independence phase, grappling with issues such as tribal conflicts and a lack of guidance, indicating that the nation is on a precarious trajectory.
He stated: “At 65, we are still not in a better position; those who fought valiantly for our independence have not been fully acknowledged.
“Our independence feels like bondage; we are in a dire situation where there is no peace of mind or tranquility. How long will we continue to endure this?
“These are the five areas we must address as we celebrate 65 years: insecurity, boosting production, utilizing our mineral resources, enhancing agriculture, and establishing true federalism. This would lead to a meaningful independence.
“Many are praying for separation; they perceive the government as lacking direction, and there is tribal conflict. I doubt whether we are making progress because we are not dedicated. Nigeria is at a very challenging moment of independence, and we are sitting on a ticking time bomb.”
