A former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Chris Nehikhare, has stated that former Governor Godwin Obaseki is not evading authorities and is prepared to address any inquiries from anti-corruption agencies if necessary.
He made this remark on Tuesday in Benin while answering questions from journalists.
Nehikhare emphasized that the former governor is allowing his successor, Monday Okpebholo, the “space and opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities to the people of the state.”
He remarked, “Former Governor Obaseki’s presence in Edo would create discomfort for Governor Okpebholo’s administration, as Obaseki does not want him to be continually compared to his own impressive performance in office."
“He is not on the run, and if anyone wishes to reach him, including the EFCC, ICPC, and others, they can send him a written request, and he will respond to their inquiries.”
“Obaseki is currently pursuing a fellowship at a foreign university, and there is an active government in Edo. His achievements cannot be compared to Okpebholo’s current work.”
“Governor Obaseki is not returning to Benin to seek a Senate position or any other role like some previous governors. He has served at the pinnacle of governance in Edo, and it is that honor he intends to uphold.”
Nehikhare urged the residents of Edo to dismiss the persistent criticisms from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he claimed continues to target Obaseki daily, highlighting the former governor's significant contributions to the state's development.
