The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that normal traffic conditions have been reinstated on the Abuja–Lokoja Highway after a disruption caused by a confrontation between truck drivers and military personnel over the weekend.
This announcement was made by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Mohammed A. Ahmed, on Sunday.
The incident, which reportedly involved the shattering of a truck’s windscreen, prompted truck drivers to block part of the road, resulting in severe traffic congestion along the route.
This disruption led to significant delays and difficulties for road users traveling towards Lokoja and other destinations during the festive season.
The minister instructed the immediate reopening of completed sections of the expressway and authorized the implementation of all necessary measures to facilitate smooth movement and alleviate the challenges faced by road users.
This directive was promptly executed on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and is reported to have helped ease congestion in the affected area and enhance traffic flow.
“We urge motorists to be patient, orderly, and cautious, especially during this busy holiday travel period,” Umahi stated.
“Rest assured that the Federal Government is dedicated to ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable road transportation across the nation,” Umahi added.
