Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stated that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will soon be released.
Otti made this assertion on Friday during a brief official visit to the state by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
“I can assure you that I am in discussions with Mr. President. He is positively inclined towards it, and I am confident that in the near future, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom,” Otti remarked.
He emphasized his long-standing relationship with Tinubu, characterizing the president as a man of his word.
“Mr. President and I have been friends for many years. Whatever he intends to do, he will communicate it, and if he cannot, he will make that clear. Having made promises, I am certain he will fulfill them,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Minister of Works Dave Umahi urged the residents of the South-East to remain united and peaceful.
“I urge the people of the South-East to come together and unite. As your brother, I have heard the messages for Mr. President and the remarks from the Governor of Abia State,” Umahi stated.
The minister assured that regional leaders are actively pursuing a political resolution regarding Kanu’s situation.
“I want to assure Senator Abaribe and Governor Otti that the governors of the South-East are working diligently. They are seeking a political solution in collaboration with our senators, House of Representatives members, and ministers,” he concluded.
