The Nigerian Army 4 Special Forces, Doma, Nasarawa State, has called for a deeper collaboration among security agencies to tackle insecurity and enhance peaceful coexistence within the North-Central region.
Its Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Olurotimi Azubuike-Awolo, made the call at an event to commemorate the 2025 West African Social Activities, WASA, on Sunday in Doma.
Azubuike-Awolo expressed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working with other security agencies towards tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of security challenges in the region.
The commandant, who underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing insecurity, said the army alone cannot tackle the complex security challenges in the region.
“Collaboration will enable the security agencies leverage on each other’s strengths to enhance intelligence gathering, launch offensive attacks on the criminals with a view to promoting and sustaining peace and stability in the region and the country in general,”he said.
The commandant explained that in line with the Chief of Army Staff command philosophy, his command had recorded remarkable feats in terms of fighting crime and criminalities within its areas of responsibility.
He particularly commended his troops for exhibiting a high standard of professionalism during training exercises and corresponding operational activities within its areas of responsibility
“It is remarkable to note that the command and the ancillary, Operation Whirl Stroke, had an eventful 2025.
“It is also gratifying to state that we completed all training schedules as reflected in the army headquarters forecast of events for the year, notwithstanding some glaring challenges within the period.
“These are in addition to other covert and overt inter-agency collaborative operations carried out under Operation Whirl Stroke and within other formations and units the 4 special command is supporting in all theatres of operation across the country, which is highly commendable.
“We have made remarkable improvements in our operational and administrative performances, especially in the areas bordering on training and other requisite interventions that boosted troops’ fighting morale,” he added.
Azubuike-Awolo, described the WASA annual event as an age-long tradition in the Nigerian army, traceable to the pre-independence period.
He further explained that the annual event is aimed at providing a conducive atmosphere to enable officers, soldiers and their families, as well as civilian friends to interact and make merry.
He also noted that the event promotes comradeship, deepens esprit de corps and strengthens unity among personnel of the Nigerian army, their families and other members of society.
Speaking, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, thanked the military and other security agencies for their efforts toward maintaining law and order as well as ensuring peace in the state and beyond.
The governor, represented by Mr Usman Baba, the Commissioner for Security and Sundry Matters in the state, promised to continually support the security agencies with operational vehicles and other logistics to ensure optimal performance.
He attributed the relative peace in the state to the relentless efforts of the Nigerian army and other security agencies and promised deeper collaboration towards a peaceful state.
DAILY POST reports that the highlight of the event was the display of cultural dances by different cultural groups, a tug-of-war contest, presentation of awards to personnel who had distinguished themselves, among others.
