The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has said over N1.1 billion was forfeited to the Federal Government between January and March 2021.

The Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, stated this while briefing the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes Committee led by Senator Suleiman Kwari while on oversight visit to the ICPC headquarters last week Thursday.

Owasanoye said N418.8m and $1.5m in domiciliary accounts were forfeited to the Federal Government in the first quarter of this year.

He said the anti-graft agency also seized five plots of land, 13 businesses, 29 buildings, One vehicle and five farms during the period under review.

Apart from that, the ICPC boss said 73 cases were filed in 2020 while only 11 cases had been filed between January and March 2021.

He explained that the agency secured 26 convictions in 2020 and four convictions in the first quarter of 2021. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

He added that N147bn was restrained by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation from personnel, overhead and capital costs.

He said the action was taken on the basis of instructions issued in 2019 by the agency in line with the ICPC personnel cost review of ministries, departments and agencies.

The breakdown of restrained funds, according to him are Overhead – N15.5 bn, Personnel – N32.3bn and N99.2bn.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee commended the anti-graft agency for its achievements so far.

He assured the ICPC that the Senate was ready to give the agency the necessary support in order to do more.

He said, “I appreciate the Chairman and board members for the job well done and we also commend what you have been doing for the nation.”
