Following months of secret negotiations, Ms Dorries told the Daily Mail: “Conservative members now need to think the unthinkable and look to the future.”

The acclaimed author, who has never been fond of Kemi Badenoch, spent three decades as a Tory member.

While her disgruntled position on the Conservative leader is well known, the move is still another hammer blow to the struggling party, which continues to tank in the polls.

Mr Farage welcomed the move on the eve of a major weekend for his movement.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Nadine Dorries to Reform UK.

“She is a hugely successful politician, author and columnist and will be a great boost to our campaign to win the next General Election.”

Responding to the move, the Conservative Party said: “We wish Nadine well.”

Ms Dorries will deliver the opening speech at Reform’s two-day conference in Birmingham.

It is understood she has not been guaranteed a job in any future Reform government.

But the 68-year-old firebrand, born in Liverpool, did not rule out a return to the Commons.

Ms Dorries said: “The Conservative Party cannot win the next election.

“It removes election winning prime ministers, and replaces them with duds.”

Sources close to Ms Dorries, 68, claimed she believes Labour will fall within the next two years.

They also suggested the former Conservative Culture Secretary has little faith Kemi Badenoch could ever win a general election.
