But the earliest appointment she could get at Llanyravon Surgery, near Cwmbran, in South , was later that week.

When Ms Watkins arrived for her 3pm appointment on June 18, she collapsed while sitting in a chair in the waiting room.

Despite desperate efforts by medical staff to save her, she was pronounced dead at the surgery.

An opening hearing at Gwent Coroners’ Court was told no medical cause of death has yet been established.

The inquest heard Ms Watkins, from Llanyravon, had contacted the surgery earlier in the week because she was feeling unwell at home.

Her devastated family have since raised concerns there may have been “missed opportunities” in the care she received before her death.

In a statement, they said: “We have many unanswered questions about the advice and care given.”

Rose Farmer, Area Coroner for Gwent, confirmed that a post-mortem examination had been carried out.

She said a full inquest into Ms Watkins’ death will take place in March year.

This is after further investigations have taken place.

Friends and loved ones have paid tribute to the 66-year-old online, describing her as a “lovely lady”.

Her daughter Donna said: “Mum had lived in Llanyravon all her life and leaves behind her devoted partner of 26 years, Keith Berry, and a family utterly devastated by this unexpected loss.”

The hearing in Newport was adjourned while investigations continue.
