Under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 it is illegal to engage in sexual activity with an animal.
The alleged offences took place between January 2024 and January 2026 to a horse in the Abdy area of Rotherham.
Police hope to identify a man in CCTV footage who they believe could aid their investigation.
The man has been described as having short, dark hair and of a slim build.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating reports of criminal activity in Rotherham have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to identify.
“It is reported that on several occasions between January 2024 and January 2026, a man committed sexual acts against a horse in the Abdy area.
“Enquiries are ongoing, and we are now releasing a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to as he may be able to help with our investigation.
“The man is described as slim, with short, dark hair.
“We appreciate the image is not of high quality, but we hope that someone may recognise the man pictured or his clothing.”
Police have urged anyone with information about the incidents or the man pictured to contact them immediately.
